Fall is a festive time for the Jews, particularly in DC! From October 23 to November 2, the Washington, DC Jewish Community Center is hosting its annual Hyman S. & Freda Bernstein Jewish Literary Festival. With authors ranging the gamut from fiction to nonfiction, children’s stories to memoirs, the festival features such events as readings, lectures and movie screenings.
As a writer and a Jewish enthusiast myself, I am always especially excited for this festival, and make sure to attend at least one reading per year. Check out my past reviews of Eileen Pollack and Elisa Albert, Zoe Heller, and Rebecca Goldstein.
As of sunset this Wednesday we have also been in the week of Sukkot, so Chag Sameach! GatherTheJews has a succinct list of upcoming celebrations around the District (there’s no way I can’t be a fan of the Yoda graphic complete with kipa and lulav! :P) I’d also encourage you to check out Occupy K Street, which features pictures and updates on the sukkah erected there. Stop by at 5:30 pm for some Sukkot Bible study as well.
