If you’re like me, perhaps you waited a little too long to research volunteering opportunities and are coming across a lot of “full” signs. On the opposite side of the coin, that’s great news! Looks like there’s going to be tons of tikkun olam going on tomorrow in honor of Dr. King. Here are a few places you might find these mensches.

Yachad’s We the People Day of Service
Greater DC Area
Federal holiday tradition of repairing local homes, community centers and group houses
All day event

Shoe Drive and Volunteering with Sixth & I
Greater DC Area
As part of the MLK Day 2010 day of service
9 a.m.

Repair Low-income Homes with DCJCC
Greater DC Area
As part of the Behrend Builders program
10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Create bracelets for the Thoughtful Treasures Program with JCCGW
JSSA is also volunteering at this service fair

Bethesda North Marriott Conference Center,
For the NIH Children’s Inn
1-3:30 pm

Another good way to serve is through donations—especially now, in the aftermath of the Haiti Earthquake. JTA has been on the scene; click here for a list of Jewish organizations soliciting funds and what your donations will do for the victims. Please consider this mitzvah! With our help, we can make this a better world.
