Full disclosure—I work for B’nai B’rith, one of the organizations (along with Sixth & I) that sponsored this trivia contest, which took place Tuesday night at Capitol Skyline Hotel. You may have seen me checking your ID as you walked in, or sitting in the back with the other judges, trying desperately to keep up with the flow of trivia rounds. 😛 My biggest regret was that I didn’t get to partake in the festivities myself!

Though there was wind and some storm clouds, the event, postponed from last week due to inclement weather, went on without a hitch. Trivia Under the Stars, commemorating a year of monthly trivia nights undertaken by these two organizations, took place poolside with over 200 young professionals in attendance. Formed into groups of seven, they competed for great prizes, for example a free night at the hotel, which overlooks the Capital building. As I understood it, Team Every Time I Read This, I Wet My Pants won for the third month running, which set a new record.

Questions were varied and creative, sometimes involving song or movie clips, sometimes involving self-explanatory multiple choice or fill-in-the-blanks, but often, one of the staff would read them aloud and keep the good vibe going. The event also featured chicken and hot dogs, a partially open bar, and a guest appearance by recent Sixth & I fixture, Chef Spike Mendelsohn. For extra credit, participants were encouraged to jump in the pool and swim laps as fast as they could.

Needless to say, this was a special kind of fun, but usual trivia nights are also enjoyable times! Read my coverage of last August’s soiree here. Next month’s event is taking place on Tuesday, July 7. Contact Renee Howard at rhoward@bnaibrith.org or Aaron Weintraub at aweintraub@sixthandi.org for more information.
